Current Vacancy

HGV Technician

We’re seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV Technician to join our maintenance team, helping diagnose, repair and maintain our fleet of HGV sweeper vehicles to a high operational and safety standard.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy goods vehicles, including HGV sweeper vehicles and Class 2 vehicles, to ensure optimal operational performance.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in mechanical systems, hands-on repair work, and experience using a range of tools and specialist equipment.

Candidates should have a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and repair, ensuring safety standards and quality workmanship are consistently met.

NVQ Level 2 in Mechanics is required.

Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of HGV sweeper vehicles, identifying faults and areas requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Maintain and repair a fleet of 15 vehicles, including DAF, Volvo and Renault vehicles.
  • Perform repairs using fabrication, welding, soldering and basic electrical skills where required.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and specialist equipment to carry out repairs and assembly tasks.
  • Carry out routine maintenance tasks including tyre replacements, brake servicing and fluid checks.
  • Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations and company standards.
  • Document repair work accurately in accordance with company procedures.
  • Liaise with operations and drivers directly regarding vehicle issues and requirements.
  • Provide roadside assistance as and when needed.
  • Work alongside a qualified technical fitter assistant.
  • Liaise with suppliers and order parts as required.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in heavy vehicle or machinery repair, preferably as an HGV Technician or similar role.
  • Experience working with road sweepers is ideal, but not essential.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering and basic electrical work.
  • Experience with assembly processes and use of hand tools, power tools and specialist equipment.
  • Own tools are required.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills when liaising with operations, drivers and team members.
  • Clean driving licence preferred; Class 2 licence is ideal but not essential.
